Gov. Larry Hogan rescinded Friday the "State of Emergency" in Maryland that was enacted Jan. 22 in response to severe winter weather. "The entire state of Maryland was impacted by the most significant and widespread storm our state has ever experienced, but together — thanks to the efforts of so many state employees, members of our law enforcement and National Guard, emergency responders, highway workers, and volunteers — we responded effectively and efficiently," Hogan said in a statement. "Most importantly, I want to thank the people of Maryland, who showed tremendous patience and resilience both responding to and recovering from this historic storm." Last weekend's snowstorm was the fourth-biggest to strike the Northeast since 1950, according to government meteorologists. A total of 24 million people were hit by 20 inches or more of snow. Anne Arundel, Carroll and Baltimore County schools are expected to open Monday. Harford County officials said they would monitor roads and bus stops through the weekend and will notify parents Sunday afternoon. Baltimore City school officials had not made a decision as of Friday night. Read more: www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/bs-md-state-emergency-20160129-story.html
