Reaching for a last-minute deal before lawmakers return to work next week, Gov. Kate Brown released a revised minimum wage plan Friday that scales back proposed increases but offers workers a raise as soon as this summer. Brown's proposal reduces the Portland area's top rate by a dollar, from $15.52 an hour to $14.50. The statewide rate would fall from $13.50 to $13.25. Both would top out in 2022, rising with inflation after. The first bump would come in July — six months sooner than originally planned — when both the Portland and statewide rates would rise by 50 cents, to $9.75. Oregon's current rate is $9.25, two dollars more than the federal minimum. The revised proposal came a day after Brown met with business and union leaders, hoping to salvage a compromise that would keep the minimum wage from appearing on the November ballot but also win support from business groups.
