President Barack Obama will deliver an address to the Illinois General Assembly on Feb. 10, nine years to the day he was in Springfield to announce he was running for president. Obama, who served in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004, will talk about “what we can do, together, to build a better politics — one that reflects our better selves,” a White House official said in a statement. No details about the time of the speech, whether the public will have access to it or whether the president will make any other appearances in Springfield were available Friday. Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner said in a statement, "I look forward to welcoming President Obama to the State Capitol and hearing him speak about finding common ground between Republicans and Democrats.
