PIERRE, S.D. -- Right off the top of his state of the state address, South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard calls for a half-cent sales tax to increase teacher pay. South Dakota is last among the states when it comes to teacher pay and that, according to the governor, hinders districts’ ability to hire and keep good teachers. “The bad news is the gap is getting worse,” Daugaard said when comparing South Dakota teacher pay to neighboring states. “The only way to become more competitive is to increase our teachers’ salary. We need to put more money into the system,” Daugaard explained. See more: www.kotatv.com/news/south-dakota-news/SD-governor-half-cent-sales-tax-to-pay-teachers/37395136
