More than a month after a federal judge dismissed the governor's bogus internal investigation of the Bridgegate scandal as an expensive dodge, the co-chairs of the Legislative committee investigating the scandal both want to reopen hearings on this question, as they should. The surprise is that the Democratic leaders are not on board with them. Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson), is flatly opposed. And Senate President Steve Sweeney is refusing to discuss the issue. This report, which has cost taxpayers $8 million so far, cleared Gov. Christie of any wrongdoing. That's not surprising, given that Christie chose the law firm of his "dear friend" to conduct the inquiry. This was fixed from the start. Judge Susan Wigenton suggested as much, bludgeoning the firm of Gibson Dunn and Crutcher for its flimsy, pricey report and suggesting it may have violated ethics laws by omitting notes from 70 interviews.
