Laredo-area school district found not liable for death of Bruni High School student
A federal court judge has ruled that WCISD is not liable for the death of a student who died by suicide after he was questioned by school authorities about a possible inappropriate relationship between him and a Bruni High School teacher.
The plaintiffs claimed that Webb Consolidated Independent School District violated federal laws through a failure to train and supervise its employees. The plaintiffs had to show that the school district or its top officials showed “deliberate indifference.”
They also argued that WCISD created a danger that caused Oscar Ramos Cruz’s sexual abuse and suicide.
On Friday, U.S. Senior District Judge George P. Kazen granted a motion for a summary judgment to Webb Consolidated Independent School District.
