Recent winter storm wiped out most of Virginia's $202M snow removal budgetVirginia exhausted most of its $202 million snow removal budget during the winter storm that dumped nearly 30 inches in the northern part of the state. Hampton Roads was comparatively unscathed during the Jan. 21-24 storm, which is good considering the region has the smallest snow removal budget in the state at $3 million. The area still has about $1 million of its budget intact. So what happens if Hampton Roads gets hit with a late-winter freeze or snow? Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Paula Miller saidofficials can dip into the area’s larger maintenance budget and push back less pressing projects like road resurfacing if more money is needed.
