The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sent an additional epidemiologist to St. Croix to assist the Virgin Islands in monitoring Zika throughout the territory. Dr. Jay Roth, an epidemiologist with the CDC, arrived in St. Croix from Tennessee on Wednesday, according to Deputy Health Commissioner Kim Jones. Roth is on loan from the CDC for a 30-day period and will assist territorial epidemiologist Dr. Esther Ellis in tracking the spread of the mosquito-borne disease, she said. Roth is “very familiar” with the Virgin Islands, as he has previously filled in while Ellis was on maternity leave, Jones said.
