FAIRBANKS—A former Healy Lake tribal administrator accused of embezzlement was sentenced Friday to three years’ probation. JoAnn Polston, 60, of Fairbanks was also given 90 days home confinement and ordered to cooperate with representatives of the Healy Lake Tribe regarding the whereabouts and disposition of tribal funds. U.S. District Judge Ralph R. Beistline in Anchorage also ordered Polston to pay restitution of $4,577.61 to the Bureau of Indian Affairs and $102,860.20 to the Healy Lake Tribe. Polston in September pleaded guilty to one count of theft of government funds and one count of embezzlement and theft from an Indian tribal organization. A news release from the office of the U.S. Attorney for the district of Alaska said Polston knowingly "converted to her own use" BIA and tribal money between 2009 and 2012. www.newsminer.com/news/local_news/former-interior-alaska-tribal-administrator-sentenced-for-embezzlement/article_4c8b112e-cc62-11e5-b8b5-3f128671d0e6.html
