There have been 19 confirmed salmonella cases and 41 people with gastrointestinal illnesses in Estill County since the beginning of January, according to Estill County Emergency Management. The health department is investigating the salmonella outbreak and is still trying to find the cause, according to a Facebook post by Estill County Emergency Management. Salmonella infections are relatively common, according to the post. The symptoms include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps and can last up from four to seven days.
