Ethics Commission sets hearing on complaint against state treasurerLITTLE ROCK — The state Ethics Commission has scheduled a Jan. 22 hearing to consider a complaint against state Treasurer Dennis Milligan. The complaint, filed Aug. 20 by Little Rock lawyer and liberal blogger Matt Campbell, alleges that Milligan committed multiple ethics violations while running for and since being elected to his current office. An attorney for Milligan has said Campbell’s complaint is full of factual errors and erroneous legal conclusions. In a letter to Campbell dated Tuesday, Graham Sloan, the commission’s director, said the panel will consider whether the Republican state treasurer, who took office in January, violated state law by: —Giving jobs in the treasurer’s office to spouses of two state legislators without prior approval of the Joint Budget Committee, the Legislative Council and the governor, at salaries that exceeded the level prescribed by the state compensation plan.
