Federal agents issue subpoenas to nonprofits led by Councilman Reginald GaffneyFederal agents served a subpoena Friday to two nonprofits led by Jacksonville City Councilman Reginald Gaffney, although an attorney for the groups insisted that their employees and Gaffney aren’t targets of an investigation. Details about the subpoena served to Community Rehabilitation Center, Inc. and its affiliated foundation or the nature of the federal agents’ inquiry is unknown. The groups’ attorney, Wesley White, said they received identical subpoenas but declined to say what information the agents sought. However, he said the subpoenas were seeking information about the organizations, not Gaffney or others affiliated with the group. Gaffney, a first-term councilman elected in 2015, is the long-time executive director of the CRC. The organization, based on Beechwood Street in the city’s Northside, provides a range of services that includes helping people suffering from mental illness and drug addiction.
