CHRISTIANSBURG — Bill Bunch is staking out a position to the left of other Democrats lining up to take on U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith. “I challenge anybody to be more of a progressive liberal than I am,” the Tazewell County farmer, retired postal worker and farmers market manager said Thursday. Bunch, 67, said he was inspired to take on Griffith, a three-term Republican from Salem, by the presidential campaign of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. “I want to get his message out across the district,” Bunch said. As Sanders competes with Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination, Bunch is vying with a field of Democrats who want the party’s nod to run against Griffith. Democratic Party officials have said that about a half-dozen candidates have signaled interest in the nomination, including Roanoke Mayor David Bowers and decorated Army veteran Derek Kitts of Christiansburg.
