Gov. Bruce Rauner stressed economic growth and less government waste as ways to balance Illinois’ budget during a town-hall-style meeting Tuesday with members of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce. “It’s outrageous to me, just unconscionable to me, that we don’t have a budget eight months now coming into the fiscal year,” the Republican governor said, blaming the Democrat-dominated legislature for the impasse. The evening event was held at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. Rauner held similar get-togethers earlier in the day in Rockford and Rock Island with their local chamber groups. Speaking for about 30 minutes, Rauner said the legislative majority in Springfield wants the budget conversation to be a choice between more taxes or fewer government services.
