Ex-police chief in Louisiana town sent to prison for using Taser on mouthy inmateLAFAYETTE, La. — A former police chief in a small Louisiana town has been sentenced to prison for using a stun gun on a jail inmate who was verbally disruptive but didn't pose a threat. Former Mamou police Chief Robert McGee was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Richard T. Haik Sr. to one year and one day in prison, the U.S. Justice Department announced. McGee pleaded guilty in October to violating the civil rights of an inmate who was being held at the city's jail in August 2010. Prosecutors said the inmate fell against a cell wall after McGee administered a five-second shock to his chest and abdomen. McGee was visiting the jail after the inmate became verbally, but not physically, disruptive, court records show.
