Madison — The balance will shift toward property owners and development and away from land, water and government regulation, under bills Assembly Republicans approved Tuesday in a session that stretched into the night. As Republicans who control the Assembly push to wrap up their legislative session for the year next week, state representatives also passed bills to increase the amount of money available to wrongly incarcerated people and prevent fire officials from barring natural Christmas trees in churches. On a 57-39 vote, the Assembly approved AB 600, which could aid future lakefront development similar to Milwaukee's planned Couture high-rise, where issues of development of former lake beds have arisen. Four Republicans joined all Democrats in opposing the bill, which now goes to the Republican-run Senate. "Today is a great day for property owners in the state of Wisconsin," one of the bill's key sponsors, Rep. Adam Jarchow (R-Balsam Lake), told reporters before the start of Tuesday's session.
