Kansas bill raising speed limit to 80 mph runs into political roadblockA House Republican offered support Tuesday for boosting the speed limit on some Kansas highways to 80 mph amid opposition from the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas Department of Transportation to the reform. Rep. John Bradford, R-Lansing, spoke in favor of House Bill 2450 and shared with the House Transportation Committee his personal experience traveling in states with speed limits in excess of the 75 mph limit in Kansas. He said the adjustment would improve motorists’ safety because individuals who comply with the top speed limit in Kansas could travel more easily alongside people driving faster in violation of current law. “If you’re out on the highway you’ll quickly see there are many drivers already driving 80, 85, 90 and some even faster,” Bradford said.
