FAIRBANKS—The Alaska Senate might not have bought into the House’s plan to speed the session up, but things are still on track for a very fast budget. In a news conference Thursday afternoon, Senate Finance Co-Chair Pete Kelly said both bodies plan to have the state operating budget passed and into conference committee by March 15, nearly a month earlier than last year. “We want it done by March 15th,” he said. “That’s a very aggressive schedule.” That doesn’t mean the bill would be ready to go to the governor’s desk, he said. Instead, it would be ready to go to conference committee to hash out the differences between the versions of the operating budget passed by the House and the Senate, narrowing what can be discussed.
