Amarillo College President Russell Lowery-Hart held a town hall meeting Thursday afternoon to address the status of a workforce restructuring that went into effect last year. He told employees gathered in Ordway Hall at AC’s Washington Street campus that a controversial reduction of the college’s workforce was complete and had solved an unexpected multimillion-dollar budget shortfall. The three-pronged effort involved a retirement incentive that was offered to at least 91 employees in October, a reorganization of the workforce and some layoffs. Lowery-Hart announced 56 employees accepted the buyouts. That number was greater than what he previously told the Globe-News in December, a discrepancy he attributed to a clerical error.
