TALLAHASSEE — With four weeks left in their 2016 session, Florida lawmakers have a chance to pass a landmark $3 billion gambling agreement with the Seminole Tribe. The revenue boost, which would replace a previous five-year $1 billion deal with the Seminoles, would ease budget pressures in the coming years. But the Legislature’s ratification of the seven-year agreement, negotiated by Gov. Rick Scott in December, is far from a certainty. The potential Seminole deal is entangled in a complicated web of other gambling interests, which have long used the legislative arena to gain a competitive edge or to undermine their rivals. Sen. Rob Bradley, R-Fleming Island, and Rep. Jose Felix Diaz, R-Miami, are the two lawmakers charged with the task of crafting a mega gambling deal that can win favor in the House and Senate.
