Feds want to seize 1,400 acres in Nicholas County in alleged crop-insurance fraud caseThe federal government wants to seize more than 1,400 acres of land in Nicholas County that is suspected of being involved in an alleged insurance-fraud scheme, according to a civil complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Lexington. Investigators believe the 13 parcels, ranging in size from 201 acres to 1.6 acres, were used in “specified unlawful activities” to defraud thousands and possibly millions of dollars through false claims against crop-insurance programs. The total fair cash value of the land, houses and mobile homes on the properties is more than $2 million, according to records on the Nicholas County Property Valuation Administrator’s website. The ongoing investigation has turned up instances of alleged conspiracy, money laundering, and mail and wire fraud, according to a complaint filed Feb. 5 by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Fyffe. All the properties east and south of Carlisle are listed in the name of Nicholas County farmer Earl Lee Planck Jr. alone or with his wife, Suzanna Planck, the Planck Trust, or in the name of B.S. Land and Cattle Co. LLC, a company the Plancks owned that was administratively dissolved in September. Read more here: www.kentucky.com/news/state/article60246961.html
