Guam lawmakers Tuesday were one vote shy of overriding Gov. Eddie Calvo’s veto of a measure to repeal pay raises appointed and elected officials received in 2014. The governor vetoed Bill 204-33 after lawmakers voted 9-5 in favor of the measure during an emergency session late last month. Sen. Tina Muña Barnes, D-Mangilao, was absent from the previous vote. A two-thirds majority, or 10 votes, is needed to override a gubernatorial veto. The override vote Tuesday failed 9-6. With a complete legislative body present during Tuesday’s session, Sen. Nerissa Underwood, D-Tamuning, asked her colleagues to reconsider the measure again, stating the issue is more than just about saving money.
