Sanders surrogate Killer Mike sparks controversy with ‘uterus’ comment at Atlanta rallyATLANTA -- Killer Mike, a rapper who has become a frequent surrogate for Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, ignited a controversy here at a Sanders rally on Tuesday night for saying that a uterus alone doesn't qualify someone to be president. Killer Mike, whose real name is Michael Render, was among a series of African American supporters who spoke ahead of the Vermont senator at a raucous gathering at the campus of Morehouse College, a historically black institution. During his remarks, Killer Mike relayed a recent conversation with an activist named Jane Elliott, whom he said told him: "A uterus doesn't qualify you to be president of the United States. You have to have policy that's reflective of social justice." In a race featuring Hillary Clinton, who would be the country's first female president, gender has been an undercurrent throughout the contest, with several previous controversies emerging.
