Vince Young hires famed defense attorney Dick DeGuerin for DWI case
Former Texas quarterback Vince Young has hired famed Houston defense attorney Dick DeGuerin to represent him on a drunken driving charge in Austin last month, the American-Statesman and KVUE-TV have learned.
DeGuerin, whose notable clients have included former U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay, confirmed that Young had retained him and released a brief statement Wednesday: “Vince Young is very embarrassed by his arrest. He has faith in the judicial system treating him fairly. He hopes that his experience will serve as a reminder that no one should drink and drive, even a small amount.”
According to an Austin police affidavit, Young told the officer he drank three or four bottles of beer at the W Hotel downtown. The officer began performing a field sobriety test, but Young stopped it after he stumbled and refused any further tests. Young also refused to perform a breath test or provide a blood sample that would have allowed police to determine his blood alcohol content.
No court date has been set.
