Foreign policy heavy-hitters take on the threat of ISIS at DU panelA panel of experts representing the military, journalism and politics held a sobering discussion on the campus of the University of Denver Wednesday about whether the Islamic State can be vanquished. In short, U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, Lt. General Michael Flynn (Ret.)and journalist Graeme Wood — who spoke before a full house at the Newman Center — concluded that there is no easy answer. "We're not facing leaders and groups, we're facing an ideology," said Flynn, former director of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency. "We will not win by capture and kill and these mysterious drone strikes. An ideology cannot be beaten by military force." He said people have to come to terms with the fact that at the core of the problem is a radicalized faith, the ideology and dogma of which has become increasingly easy to disseminate via social media.
