Kansas House committee votes down 'revenge porn' bill by a single voteThe Kansas House Judiciary Committee voted down legislation criminalizing so-called “revenge porn” by a one-vote margin Wednesday. The committee voted 10-11 on a motion to approve House Bill 2080 and send it to the full House. A few Republicans joined Democrats in supporting the legislation but fell short by the narrowest of margins. The bill would have amended the state’s definitions of blackmail and breach of privacy to include dissemination of videos and photos of another adult “who is nude or in a state of undress” without the person’s consent. Rep. Craig McPherson, R-Overland Park, voted against the legislation. He said such actions should be handled in civil court, not criminal court.
