Sentinel private probation company hit with another lawsuit
Sentinel Offender Services has been hit with yet another lawsuit, one that accuses the private probation company of cheating probationers out of extra money. Sentinel, which holds the contract to provide probation services for Richmond County State Court, has been sued more than a dozen times in Richmond and Columbia counties. It has also been sued another 15 times in federal courts in Georgia, Florida and California. The Southern Center for Human Rights filed the newest federal lawsuit Wednesday on behalf of Rita Luse and Marianne Ligocki, two residents of Cleveland, Ga. Each woman was sentenced to 12 months probation because they were unable to pay their fines in full after pleading guilty to driving on a suspended license. Luse, a 62-year-old grandmother, pleaded guilty in March 2014 in White County Probate Court. Ligocki, 45, a mother of nine, pled in July 2015, also in White County Probate Court.
