Baltimore CFO pleads guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraudA Baltimore man and chief financial officer at three companies pleaded guilty Thursday to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in a scheme to steal $1.6 million from the companies, according to federal prosecutors. Between 2007 and 2014, Christopher Camut, 53, created false emails, letters and invoices to make it seem as if financial institutions provided services to the companies, according to prosecutors. Authorities did not name the companies. Camut led the companies to issue checks payable to the financial institutions, which he deposited in his own bank accounts, prosecutors said. He also worked with a co-conspirator, Kaitlyn Jones, of Reisterstown, prosecutors said, to issue checks payable to Jones. Prosecutors said Jones, 48, has pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing. Camut has agreed to pay back $1.6 million. Read more: www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-crime-beat/bs-md-wire-fraud-20160218-story.html
