Confederate flags no longer will be allowed to be passed out at Tallahassee’s annual Veteran’s Day parade. Vet Events Tallahassee, which puts on the parade, made a final decision on the issue last week. While the group receives in-kind contributions from the city and county for the parade, it is a private organization with an executive board that sets its own policies. The decision came after complaints following last year's parade that the group Finley’s Brigade Sons of Confederate Veterans camp 1614 only handed their flags to white children and intentionally skipped black children. “Sadly, we as an organization charged with hosting events that honor those who were willing to give their lives to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States now find ourselves having to revoke one of those rights to a Veteran Service Organization in order to appease a small segment of the Community,” Vet Events president and founder Joe West wrote in an email to city and county commissioners.
