EL PASO -- Commercial traffic on the Bridge of the Americas will come to halt for more than two days next month as cargo lanes will be shut down to meet the increased passenger traffic expected during Pope Francis’ visit to Juárez. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said that while they are closing the cargo lanes on the Bridge of the Americas, they are increasing staffing and the hours of operations for cargo, pedestrian and passenger vehicles at other area ports of entry “In anticipation of an influx of border crossers, the CBP Office of Field Operations will increase staffing and service hours at area ports before, during and after the February 17 Juarez visit of Pope Francis,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said in a statement. “This includes the El Paso, Santa Teresa, and Tornillo ports.” The pope will visit various cities in Mexico from Feb. 12 to Feb. 17, with the final stop being in Juárez.
