Defense rests in case of woman charged in cutting fetus from womb
BOULDER — After less than three full days, testimony in the Longmont fetal-abduction trial ended Friday after Dynel Lane declined to testify and her defense attorneys called no witnesses.
Boulder District Judge Maria Berkenkotter sent the jury home for the weekend, and closing statements are expected Monday.
Lane, 35, remains in custody on $2 million bail. She is charged with attempted first-degree murder, unlawful termination of a pregnancy and four counts of felony assault. She has pleaded not guilty. She faces more than 100 years in prison if convicted.
Prosecutors allege Lane attacked Michelle Wilkins inside Lane's Longmont home on March 18, 2015, and cut out Wilkins' fetus before taking the baby to Longmont United Hospital and claiming it was hers.
