Ex-Lawyer Convicted Of Felony In $47,746 Theft From Disabled ManFormer lawyer Michael Schless, charged with stealing $47,746 from a disabled man whose finances he managed for years as a probate court-appointed conservator, wasn't granted the "accelerated rehabilitation" program he had requested in December in hopes of avoiding a criminal record. Instead, when his day in court arrived Friday, he ended up with a felony conviction for first-degree larceny. Schless, 78, formerly of Newington, flew up from Florida for Friday's appearance in New Britain Superior Court, where he entered a no-contest plea to the charge on which he was arrested Dec. 8. Schless withdrew his request for accelerated rehabilitation and entered a plea agreement under which he would pay more than $20,700 in restitution to his victim, John Fritz, 66, who is disabled by cerebral palsy. Under the agreement, Schless is to return to court on March 18 to be given a 10-year suspended prison sentence with five years of conditional discharge.
