Man claims he walked 4 miles to Newark hospital after being shotNEWARK – Police say a man claims to have walked four miles to a local hospital after being shot near the city's downtown early Sunday morning. Newark police spokesman Capt. Derek Glenn said the 24-year-old Irvington resident offered the story after arriving at Newark Beth Israel Hospital just before 4 a.m. with an apparent graze would to his ankle. He claimed the shot was fired near the intersection of Broad Street and Route 280, and that he had made the lengthy trek on foot to be treated. Glenn said detectives have begun an investigation, and are "in the process of attempting to verify the victim's story."
