Senate bill would allow non-felony penalties for ‘sexting’ if younger than 18A sexting bill offering non-felony penalties to people younger than 18 passed out of Senate committee Thursday. Sen. Joe Bowen (R-Owensboro) said a school resource officer in his district, the Daviess County attorney and an assistant police chief approached him about the need to sponsor the bill. Bowen’s Senate Bill 37 would give prosecutors the option to charge a minor younger than 18 giving or receiving a digital nude picture of another minor a violation, or a Class B misdemeanor for any additional offenses, instead of a felony. “Lets say a young girl, under 18, sends a nude picture of herself to her boyfriend,” Bowen said. “Subsequently, (they) break up and the boy then sends this nude image to five of his buddies.
