The head of the University of New Mexico’s medical program, Dr. Paul Roth, said in an email Thursday that he had concerns that, if the school complied with parts of a federal subpoena, it could endanger the safety of some faculty, staff and students. Earlier this month, a U.S. House investigative panel issued subpoenas to UNM and Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque in connection with the harvesting and transfer of fetal parts for medical research. Among the panel’s requests are lists of names of students, staff and faculty at the university, Roth said. “I am concerned that supplying this information would potentially endanger the safety of faculty, staff and students on our campus,” Roth said in an email to Health Sciences Center employees. “We are working to clarify and revise this request for personally identifiable information and its relevance to the stated charge of the Select Panel. I am steadfast in my commitment to ensuring the safety of everyone on our campus, as well as cultivating an environment that fosters freedom of thought and scientific inquiry.” Read more: www.abqjournal.com/731270/news/unm-reluctant-to-release-staff-names-to-fed-panel.html
