BATON ROUGE — Gov. John Bel Edwards said he's looking to the Senate to complete the rescue of this year's crippled state budget. Edwards said the House was "courageous" in passing an additional 1-cent of sales tax that will raise more than $200 million this year and $900 million next year, but insisted more tax hikes are necessary to go along with the cuts he and the House have proposed. "(The penny) was the single largest component of our plan," Edwards said during a press conference at the Capitol Friday. But Edwards said the sales tax, cuts and the $328 million to be taken from the Rainy Day and BP settlement funds "are nowhere near enough to make up the difference."
