When Augusta University student Ramalakshmi Thulluri looked to further her education beyond the borders of her home state Michigan, she said finding a safe campus was at the top of her list. But when the state House passed HB 859, which would allow for any Georgia Weapons Carry License holders who are students or employees of public universities, technical colleges or vocational schools to carry firearms on publicly-owned property, Thulluri said she feared the campus culture would change. The bill has been moved to the state Senate for consideration. “I don’t think there’s any necessity to carry on campus,” said Thulluri, who chose AU over Saint Louis University.
