TRENTON — A handful of New Jersey lawmakers from both parties said this week they like the idea of lowering the state's drinking age to 18. The problem is: Some are worried doing so would be equivalent to pouring federal money down the drain. State Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll recently introduced legislation to drop the drinking age from 21 to 18, arguing that if New Jersey residents are old enough to go to war, they should be old enough to buy alcohol legally.
