HARTFORD — Faced with mounting budget deficits that have exploded with below-par tax collections, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy ordered Monday that there will be no raises for nearly 2,000 state managers. The raises had been expected this week, but they have now been canceled. The move will save the state $2.7 million in the current fiscal year that ends on June 30 and $10 million in the next fiscal year. The state will still need many more budget cuts because the projected deficits are now $266 million in the current year and nearly $900 million in the next year. Malloy has proposed $570 million in cuts for next year – meaning that the legislature would need to find an additional $330 million in cuts or revenues to balance the budget. The move comes on the heels of a decision Friday to defer raises for nearly 300 management and professional employees in the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system at least until the end of the fiscal year on June 30. Those raises were expected last July before being postponed to December and then delayed again last week. Read more: www.courant.com/politics/hc-no-raises-0301-20160229-story.html
