KALAMAZOO — The man charged with killing six people last month will undergo a mental competency hearing, authorities announced Thursday. Jason Dalton, who moonlighted as an Uber driver, will be evaluated to determine if he is competent to stand trial, Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting told reporters. Getting said the request came earlier in the day from defense attorney Eusebio Solis of Albion, who was appointed to represent Dalton, when Solis met with Getting at a pre-exam conference at the Kalamazoo County District Court. Getting said the evaluation is likely to take up to 60 days and will delay a preliminary examination scheduled for March 10.
