The Assembly’s Democratic Majority announced Thursday its one-house budget proposal will include a $2.1 billion boost in education aid. That’s the amount Gov. Andrew Cuomo has proposed aid be increased by over two years. That the Democrats would call for an increase of more than $1 billion over what the executive has proposed just for next year is unsurprising. They also called for $434 million to be used to complete the restoration of the Gap Elimination Adjustment. The one-house proposal will include $200 million for a community schools initiative, $50 million less than some members of the Democratic conference have sought.
