Three people were killed when their SUV plunged more than 60 feet from the Bush Turnpike and into a parking lot Saturday evening, officials said. The 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe was headed east on the turnpike near the U.S. Highway 75 overpass near Richardson about 7 p.m. The driver lost control when traffic began to slow for an unknown reason, said Sgt. Lonny Haschel, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety. The SUV’S driver took “evasive action,” swerving to the left and crossing all three lanes before swerving back to the right, he said. The Tahoe rolled multiple times and struck another vehicle before falling about 63 feet and landing in a parking lot, Haschel said.
