Sheriff’s deputies high-fived after fatally shooting Georgia man with Taser during drug-induced frenzy, family says Sheriff’s deputies in Georgia high-fived each other after fatally shooting a man with a Taser while he suffered a drug-induced psychotic episode, the victim’s family said. “Is this how we treat those who are having a mental breakdown?” L. Christ Stewart, the family attorney for the late Chase Sherman, told 11Alive. “Is this how we treat those that are mentally ill?” The family now wants to press charges against the Coweta County sheriff’s deputies involved in their son’s death, which was ruled a homicide. Sherman, 32, died in November after deputies responded to a 911 call about his erratic behavior. His mother, Mary Ann Sherman, told police the family had just flown home from a trip to the Dominican Republic and her son had taken a drug called “spice” — otherwise known as K2 or synthetic marijuana. She said her son was “freaking out” in a car on Interstate 85 and trying to bite his girlfriend, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
