UPDATE: SpaceX announced on its Twitter page that during Falcon 9's landing in the Pacific, a landing leg broke. SpaceX founder Elon Musk continues his push into the history books with yet another ambitious project. On Sunday, a SpaceX team will attempt to land its Falcon 9 on a barge floating in the middle of the Pacific ocean. The two previous attempts in late 2015 ended in crash landings. The order of events will begin at 1:42 p.m. ET when a 30-second window will open allowing for the launch of the Jason-3, a NASA and NOAA satellite designed to measure the surface of Earth's oceans. The satellite will be carried into orbit by the Falcon 9 rocket. Once the rocket separates from the satellite and reenters the atmosphere, a series of engine thrusts and time-sensitive mechanical cycles must take place to guarantee a successful barge landing.
