Detroit will announce on Thursday a new plan to renovate 40 parks across the city. Mayor Mike Duggan's office has planned a news conference for 11:15 a.m. Thursday at the Simmons Playground at 19450 Chapel at Vassar to make the announcement. City officials weren't releasing additional details about the $11.7-million project on Wednesday. Duggan was to be joined at the news conference by Councilwoman Janeé Ayers; city Parks and Recreation Director Alicia Bradford; Stephanie Young, the city Department of Neighborhoods manager of District 1; Alice Haliburton, president of the Evergreen/Lahser/7-8 Mile Roads Community Council, and Ardenia Johnson, former vice president of the community council. www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/detroit/2016/03/16/detroit-spend-117-millon-renovate-40-parks/81870832/Nothing against children, but considering the fiscal crisis in Detroit this seems like misplaced priorities.
