Kirk, Duckworth bask in easy primary wins, look to November showdownSen. Mark Kirk and Rep. Tammy Duckworth took different paths Wednesday on the first full day of their 237-day fight over whether the Republican incumbent keeps his Senate seat. Kirk spent little time Tuesday night savoring his primary-election victory and promptly returned later in the evening to Washington. His campaign spokeswoman, Eleni Demertzis, said he had votes to cast Wednesday and "jampacked meetings" in order to "catch up." By contrast, Duckworth, a two-term House Democrat, rose early to greet commuters at the 95th Street Red Line station. Democratic Rep. Bobby Rush, who won the primary for his House seat, accompanied Duckworth. The Hoffman Estates lawmaker then headed Downstate, where she was slated to attend a "thank you" lunch with supporters at Cafe Moxo in Springfield. Later, she was scheduled to visit southwestern Illinois and meet with commuters in Fairview Heights, near St. Louis.
