Three Augusta Environmental Services employees get to keep a third of the raises city officials said were obtained without their permission and which led to Director Mark Johnson’s suspension. Despite the Augusta Commission’s 6-4 vote last month to suspend Johnson for 30 days and rescind his raise, Johnson will retain a five percent pay increase for assuming duties associated with a new demolition program, Deputy Administrator Chester Brazzell confirmed Thursday. He, Deputy Director Lori Videtto and Administrative Manager Tammie Herring lost their original 15 percent pay hikes, retroactive to June, because “none of the raises had gone through the appropriate approval process,” Brazzell said. But after a review City Administrator Janice Allen Jackson said was to determine whether their duties increased in conjunction with the new demolition program, Brazzell said they get to keep five percent increases.
