For Louisiana higher education, health care; bigger-than-expected budget deficit means deeper cuts
Despite the Louisiana Legislature approving several tax hikes during a recent special session, the state remains about $70 million short for its budget that ends June 30. The remaining deficit means higher education and health care again find themselves faced with the threat of cuts with just three months left in the current budget cycle.
