ABU NAKHLAH, Qatar, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- A 42-year-old airman assigned to a Qatar airbase was found dead as a result of a "non-combat related incident," the U.S. Department of Defense said.
Maj. John D. Gerrie, 42, of Nickerson, Kansas, was found dead about 5 p.m. Saturday at Al Udeid Air Base, officials said.
Gerrie was assigned to 453rd Electronic Warfare Squadron at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas. He was in Qatar under Operation Freedom's Sentinel, the United States' continuing security presence in Afghanistan.
Details about Gerrie's death have not been released.
