Kenedy residents notified of drinking water arsenic violation
KENEDY – Kenedy residents and businesses received letters from the city’s water system department notifying them about excessively high levels of arsenic in the city’s water supply. The letter, which is dated Dec. 16, states that the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has notified the city that the drinking water in the system had exceeded the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for arsenic. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established the MCL for arsenic at 0.010 milligrams per liter (mg/L). The EPA has determined that it is a health concern at levels above the MCL. The letter said that arsenic levels of 0.012 mg/L were measured in the third quarter of 2014. In the fourth quarter of 2014, the levels rose to 0.016 mg/L. In the first and second quarters of 2015, the levels rose to 0.017 mg/L. In the third quarter of 2015, the levels dropped to 0.013, but were still higher than the MCL of 0.010. We had our own arsenic contamination in Bryan from a pesticide company I was not aware of that story because I did not live in the Brazos Valley area except for a brief period in 1999-2000 when I stopped renting an apartment in Austin even though I worked there. I was on a four-day work week so I chipped in to stay with one of my friends Monday through Wednesday nights, then I went to my parent's home on the weekend.

There are test wells that monitor the movement of the arsenic plumes in the ground water. I affected the lake at the muni golf course and other bodies of water around Finfeather.
I'm done for the night, Night Owl. Stay true to yourself.
